Response to the Paterno Report, from local youth and victims support non-profits

Response to Recommendations contained in the Paterno Report

As representatives of organizations working with victims of child sexual abuse and engaged in prevention efforts for many years in Centre County, we were pleased with the support of such programs in the recently released Paterno family response to the Freeh report. We are concerned, however, with the impression created by Mr. Clemente that a new national organization is needed to address the needs of victims of child sexual abuse and create new prevention programs. We realize that child sexual abuse is an issue that few people think about until they are impacted by a crisis, and thus knowledge of existing resources may be limited. It is important, however, that the community know how we have responded and what work is being done to meet the needs of victims and to prevent child sexual abuse.

Within weeks after Jerry Sandusky’s arrest, representatives from the Centre County Women’s Resource Center (CCWRC), the Centre County Youth Services Bureau (YSB), the YMCA of Centre County and the Centre County United Way met to discuss what the community needed and how we might provide it. Pennsylvania Youth Files Climate Change Lawsuit

Making Sixteen Public Trust Cases to Protect the Atmosphere

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Ashley Funk, an 18-year-old from Mount Pleasant, filed a lawsuit today in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on the issue of whether the DEP has a constitutional obligation to protect the atmosphere and other natural resources, even if the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has not acted to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Ashley’s is the newest Atmospheric Trust Litigation (ATL) case to be filed in the United States, making it the 14th case in the United States along with two international suits and dozens of administrative actions in every other state in the country, all on behalf of youth pleading for their rights.

Because spam attacks have been getting more sophisticated I have activated a new anti-spam service called Mollum

We shall see if it does a better job of blocking these relentless professional spam attacks.

Let us know if you have any unexpected problems with posting, we may have to work out a few bugs at first.

To reduce the spam attacks I have temporarily made the CAPTCHA a bit harder

A new bunch of professional spammers have figured out a way to buypass the spam prevention service, so I have temporarily made the catcha harder for some users.

Just as a test, I may switch it back in a few days.

If you are a regular poster, email the Webmaster at [email protected] and I will set you uo with a special account that bypasses the captcha, so you can post with privileges.

Global warming protest outside of Republican Senator Pat Toomey's Harrisburg office.

Global Warming Protestors outside Pat Toomey's Office
35 enthusiastic protesters held signs and chanted outside Toomey's office in downtown Harrisburg on July 6, from 11:30-1:00pm.  Our activists' age ranged from 2 to 85 years.  Ed brought a van full from State College,  I brought a couple people from Philly, and activists from York and Harrisburg came as well. We had given a heads-up to Senator Casey's regional office manager, Matt Leonard. He stopped by at noon and we all praised Senator Casey for his vote against the CRA.  You can see the signs praising Casey in the attached photos, but there were lots more signs blasting Toomey.  Ed had called Toomey's office to let them know we were protesting outside their office, and why we were protesting, and invited them to come down and explain Toomey's bad votes, but no one came down. So we decided to go up to his office. Unfortunately, the building guard wouldn't let us in, but he did get Toomey's office manager, Bob deSouza, to come down at long last, where he was grilled by the group about Toomey's bad votes.
